The Arrowman and Scouts started by moving the flags down to the Scouting Valley located at the Waterloo Sportsman’s Club. They started this at approximately 7:30 A.M. Once there the Scouts broke up into different groups. Some were setting up the tables for all the flags, others were arranging the three fire pits for the retirement ceremony, and others started collecting firewood. Once the tables were set up, Scouts started to fold flags that were not already folded. They then arranged the flags on seven tables set together.
While flags were being arranged the Arrowman prepared for the Flag Retirement Ceremony. The Arrowman went over their lines for the ceremony and set up the flag. The fires were started so that the coals would be hot enough when the ceremony started. A CD player was set up to play appropriate music.
The flag retirement ceremony started at approximately 9:30 A.M. The ceremony continued until almost 1:00 PM and the fires were tended until 1:30 PM when they were extinguished.
The Arrowman and Scouts retired 353 American, State and Military flags (there were no POW flags).
